About

With more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, including more than 15 years as a development consultant, Laura offers her clients a wealth of writing and fundraising skills, as well as seasoned advice.

Professional experience in the nonprofit arena includes staff positions at the San Francisco Botanical Garden Society, Cultural Initiatives Silicon Valley, California Academy of Sciences, and San Jose Museum of Art. Laura founded the Bay Area Writers Workshop, and served as Executive Director for six years.

A Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) with CFRE International since 2002, Laura is a registered Fundraising Counsel with the State of California.

Her past volunteer experiences include the co-founding of the National Association of Writers’ Conferences and Retreats.  Laura has served as a grant reviewer for California Cultural and Historical Endowment, the City of San Jose, the City of Oakland, and was a juror for the Commonwealth Club’s California Book Awards.

Laura is currently a board member of the Golden Gate Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has also been a member of the Board of Directors of Montalvo Arts Center, Palo Alto Humane Society, San Mateo County Parks Foundation, and Committee of 100 for Tibet. Additionally, she has been a Subject Matter Expert for CFRE International.

Laura earned two degrees from Mills College: a BA in English Literature with a minor in Asian Art History, and an MFA in Creative Writing. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and received an Arts Administration Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.
